ABILENE NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!!    Name:  Abilene           Best Guess for Breed:  Shepherd and terrier mix   Best Guess for Age: 6 months as of February 2025         SEX:  Female   Estimated Weight (puppies’ weights change quickly!):    28 lbs as of 1/23/25   Gets Along With:  Other dogs! Abilene is currently living with both a cat and dog and doing well! We are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters! She hasn’t previously lived with kids to our knowledge, but is very friendly when meeting kids on walks and at events.   Currently Living at:   DC area foster home.   Check out this video of Abilene: https://youtu.be/jJXz7rKtEtY.   Special Adoption Considerations:  Puppies under 6 months of age need to have multiple potty breaks/exercise throughout the day. Potential adopters with a standard 8-hour workday must be willing to make arrangements to meet the needs of their puppy.  Abilene is Looking For: Her forever home! This sweetie is in the tail end of puppyhood and and still has all that puppy love for play and snuggles and more play! She hasn’t seen nearly enough of the world and is eagerly looking forward to having her own humans for romps in the park and all the adventures they can dream up. And dog school so she can show how super smart she is. And then pets and cuddles and belly scritches at the end of a fun day together. And she’ll want quality kibble and a cushy dog bed. Most of all, though, she wants to know she’s safe and loved for all her days.  What do you say? What My Foster Says About Me: Abilene is the sweetest, most chaotic, happiest, and friendly puppy!! Her two favorite activities are either sleeping in your lap, snoring away, or bouncing off the walls ready for her next adventure! She currently lives with both a dog and a cat. She’s great with our dog and loves to make neighborhood friends while on walks! She is very curious and interested in my cat but not overly so and is still good with her. She takes cues well from both dogs and cats! She is eager to be friends with all dogs but as soon as a dog says ‘no’ she backs off. She is quite energetic but she also is good about taking a nap when I put her in the crate for a break. She’s LOVES playing with other dogs at the dog park, running laps in the backyard, attempting to defeat her puzzle feeder, and going on long walks! She sleeps through the night in her crate and doesn’t stir even when I’m up making noise in the AM. When I let her out in the morning, she says hi to me and my dog then runs down the stairs waiting to go outside. When I’m working, she’s either throwing the ball around for herself, playing with my dog, or snoozing on the couch.  She also LOVES broccoli and would happily eat your leftovers (or eat some you’re trying to hide). She is quick to learn commands and is both food and praise motivated. She is going to be the BEST addition to anyone’s family she is such a wonderful girl.
