She spent her whole life with one owner, who hand-fed her as a fledgling, but he sadly and suddenly passed away a couple of years ago.  Since then, her owner’s wife has struggled to care for her, due to health issues of her own.  Ali spent the last few years in her cage and is just now readjusting to a new life and freedom in her foster home.  She is still skittish but she steps up now on a perch for her family and steps up on her foster dad’s hand easily now.  She will allow head scritches on her terms and is comfortable walking around the house with her foster dad to see new sights. Ali is extremely quiet for a large bird, doesn’t have a history of screaming, and has a low, quiet way of vocalizing. If she hears her foster parents talk quietly in the dark room where she’s sleeping, she quietly complains at them– as she very well should! : >D  Although she is quiet in her foster home so far, she is a very large bird, capable of very loud screams, so she will only be adopted to a single-family, free-standing home. Ali took to her healthy pelleted diet, loves walnuts in the shell, grapes and scrambled eggs. We are still continuing to offer healthy veggies, but no luck yet.    Ali didn’t get many toys in her previous home, but she does love them!  She destroys her wood block toys on a regular basis so, if you are interested in adopting Ali, make sure your budget can accommodate her love for destroying toys.  Ali is large and her size can be intimidating, therefore, she will only be adopted to applicants with considerable large bird experience, who are willing to put in the work to earn her trust and build a relationship with her over time.  Ali will not be adopted out to a home with young children, as she could potentially injure them. Her forever home MUST have large bird experience. Ali is being fostered in Howell, NJ She will require three in-person visits before adoption We do not ship our birds. For the Love of Birds is a network of dedicated foster homes throughout NJ and Eastern PA.  As our adoptable birds are living in volunteer homes, we only allow approved adopters to make the required visits.
