Name:   Avalanche         Best Guess for Breed:  Carolina Dog and lab mix Best Guess for Age:  11 months as of April 2026      SEX: Female   Approximate Weight:   38 lbs as of 4/22/26; might have just a tiny bit more to grow   Gets Along With:  Avalanche does well with other dogs and needs to go to a home with a welcoming resident dog. We haven’t seen her with cats or kids but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters!   Currently Living at:   South Carolina shelter; needs a foster or forever home in the DC area to get up here.   Special adoption considerations:    Avalanche is shy – she needs to go to a home with a welcoming resident dog who will show her the ropes.   Avalanche is Looking For:   This sweetie wants nothing more than to trot through the world with all the confidence of a well-loved family pet! Right now, she’s timid. She needs extra patient and loving adopters to show her new environments at her pace, and a friendly resident dog who will show her how to dog!   Shelter staff say she is very sweet and walks on leash (albeit in a quiet setting – she hasn’t been seen in the city). Avalanche is gonna be a great, loving, amazing addition to a household that is ready to give her all the socialization and love she needs. In exchange her humans will get so many adoring gazes, so much loyal companionship. What do you say?
