Chance is the type of dog with a soft soul and a gentle nature. Almost too soft for the shelter environment, this sweet boy has been doing his best to overcome all the uncertainty and find comfort in the world around him. Chance can be shy and a little insecure when meeting new people, often needing some time to relax and get to know you. Thankfully, he has a serious appreciation for treats, which can go a long way in helping him feel more comfortable in new situations! At heart, Chance is a total people pleaser who genuinely wants to connect with his humans. Once he begins to feel safe, his affectionate personality starts to shine. He’ll happily accept hugs, soak up attention, and even try to scoot his way into your lap! His previous owner described him as having a beautifully innocent heart, and we think that’s a pretty perfect way to describe this special boy. Chance loves to learn, and working on familiar cues can be a wonderful way to help build his confidence when he’s feeling nervous. He knows “sit,” “lay down,” “no,” and “wait,” and is always happy to earn a treat for his efforts! He also walks nicely on leash and is both potty trained and crate trained. In fact, he really appreciates having access to his crate as a safe, comfortable space of his own. Like any dog adjusting to a new home, Chance will need time to decompress and settle into his new routine. A little patience, understanding, and positive encouragement will go a long way in helping him feel at home. Though he has done well with children, we anticipate that very young or overly enthusiastic children may be overwhelming for him, especially during initial introductions. Don’t let his sensitive side fool you; Chance has a playful side, too! He enjoys nice walks, a good game of tug, and squeaky toys. He would be happiest with regular exercise, playtime, and opportunities to enjoy life alongside his people, but he’s not an overly demanding or high-energy guy. Chance hasn’t lived with other dogs, but he’s had a friendly and respectful demeanor toward the dogs he’s met. He can become overwhelmed when surrounded by lots of dogs, especially if they’re a little rowdy, so a calmer canine companion may be a better fit and help him feel more at ease. We encourage meet-and-greets with any potential dog siblings to help ensure everyone is comfortable and set up for success. Chance is the sweetest sensitive boy. He may need a little extra reassurance along the way, but we have no doubt that the right person will discover just how wonderful he is. He’s looking for a family who will embrace his gentle personality, celebrate his little victories, and give him the time and security to truly blossom. We think he’s worth every bit of patience!
