Critter Details

Charles arrived at the shelter with an injured leg but bright spirits! He’s your typical happy-go-lucky dog that’s not willing to let anything hold him back, and he’s ready to bring that energy to his new home. OTHER PETS: Charles has been relaxed and playful with the other dogs that he’s met, though he will still need to meet any dog that he may be living with prior to adoption. [Likely (Must Meet First)]OWNER EXPERIENCE: Someone that can be dedicated to having a good relationship with a vet would be ideal for Charles in order to stay on top of any future medical needs that may arise. [First Dog]KIDS: Charles is tolerant of handling and hasn’t shown any signs of resource guarding during his stay at TJO, so he would likely be a good fit as a family dog. However, interactions between children and dogs should always be actively monitored to ensure that both parties remain comfortable and safe, especially while Charles is still healing. [Likely (Must Meet First)]ACTIVITY LEVEL:Charles absolutely loves spending time outside–rain or shine! He’s a huge fan of investigating all kinds of new smells and does great during casual walks, but he’d also be happy chasing some toys around the house when the temperatures are particularly low. A combination of regular exercise and mental enrichment such as food puzzles and games will help meet his needs. [Good Walking Buddy]VETERINARY CARE: Charles is currently healing from a broken leg, though he is expected to recover nicely as long as his splint is kept in place. Because of his injury, though, it’s possible that he may need above average vet care throughout his life. [Above Average]LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: Positive reinforcement training will help Charles not only learn his basic cues & skills, but also help him to bond with his new owner. [Minimal]GROOMING: Routine brushing will help to prevent any knots or matts from forming, as well as minimize shedding in the home. [Routine Brushing]
