Please contact Destiny Sibert (DestinyS@luckydoganimalrescue.org) for more information about this pet.sweet girl ISO fresh start and love! CLEO NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!! Name:  Cleo        Best Guess for Breed:  Lab mix     Best Guess for Age:  3.5 years as of June 2025       SEX:   Female   Approximate Weight:   46 lbs Gets Along With:  Other dogs!  We haven’t seen her with cats or kids but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters!   Currently Living at:   Puerto Rico shelter; needs a foster or forever home in the DC area to get on a freedom flight up here!   Special adoption considerations: Dogs from Puerto Rico have a major transition to go through when they arrive and will need humans who are very committed to socialization. We think Cleo would do best with either a resident dog or a family who can make sure she can go on walks regularly with other dogs, visit the dog park, or go to doggie daycare to learn the ropes.  Cleo is Looking For:  This sweetie has enjoyed island life on Puerto Rico but there aren’ enough homes for all the dogs there. So she’s off to the DC area on a mission to find her forever family! She’s eager for sniffy walks, romps in the park, and all the adventures her new humans can dream up. All those new smells, the new environment – she’s looking forward to it. Quality kibble and a cushy dog bed are on her wish list too, natch.    You know what, though? She’s out of the puppy yips and as an experienced dog, knows what is most important in life: Being safe and loved and under her own roof. In exchange, she promises all the love and loyalty in her furry little body, What do you say? Can you see this girl by your side?   What My Foster Says About Me:    We will update this once she has spent some time in foster care   Heartworm information: Cleo is a truly Lucky Dog. She tested positive for heartworms, but has been treated already! Heartworm is not contagious to people or other pets, but results from mosquito bites. Heartworm, if left untreated, is life threatening, but after treatment, dogs that were heartworm positive should suffer no significant long-term effects so long as they are kept on a monthly heartworm preventative. Heartworm dogs can resume full active and normal lives, but need to be kept calm for 4-6 weeks after treatment. Cleo has completed the treatment and the activity restriction period. Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.  TO ADOPT:    The adoption fee for this dog is $475, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, spay/neuter, and heartworm treatment.  If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online at bit.ly/adoptaluckydog   Lucky Dog Animal Rescue does our best to provide accurate information about the dogs we have for adoption. That said, we cannot make any guarantees about age, breed or temperament.   Thank you for contacting Lucky Dog Animal Rescue and helping to save a life!  Please visit us online at    www.luckydoganimalrescue.org   .    BE A FOSTER!!!    Fosters make it possible for Lucky Dog Animal Rescue to save and care for homeless and abandoned dogs!  To learn about fostering, please contact    fostering@luckydoganimalrescue.org   !
