He loves being with his person but is also perfectly fine doing his own thing. Cocochanel came into rescue after being surrendered due to medical neglect. He did have surgery for a luxating patella on one of his back legs. His other back leg had been broken many times and did not heal correctly so he is unable to bend it, but he’s not letting it slow him down. He gets around just fine! He does his best to signal when he needs to go outside and does well went let out regularly! He is old and isn't the fastest so he does wear belly bands. Life has been pretty low-key for Cocochanel since his surgery. His days are filled with napping, snuggling, and basking in the sun. His absolute favorite thing is curling up next to you on the couch, wrapping himself up like a burrito in his little blanket—he’s the ultimate cuddle bug. He’s adjusted well to his foster home and barks only occasionally, usually when the other dogs do. Cocochanel would thrive in a calm home, preferably without big dogs or very young kids, due to his size and special needs. He’s such a laid-back, sweet companion that any family looking for a loving, mellow dog will be lucky to have him! Watch Coco's happy dance! *This animal is a part of our “Seniors for Seniors” program where we offer senior adopters an opportunity to adopt an eligible pet at a discounted fee.* Adopting a senior dog is like getting a vintage car – it comes with character, a few extra quirks, and might need a bit more maintenance. Expect occasional tune ups at the vet for oil changes (aka meds), and embrace the fact that those 'normal lumps and bumps' are just part of the well-earned charm package! Ruff Start will share all known health information with adopters and recommendations to keep your senior dog in top shape. CocoChanel is from Texas.    One big thing you should know is they are heartworm positive – but please don’t let that scare you away from adopting them! After they undergo treatment for their condition they will be completely healthy again, and heartworm is not a contagious disease. Because they need treatment, they are available exclusively through Ruff Start’s Foster to Adopt (FTA) program.       Click here       to learn more about this program. They will get heartworm treatment at one of Ruff Start’s partner veterinary clinics in St. Cloud, so their foster will need to be comfortable getting them to and from the appointments. Treatment will consist of three injections: the first will be roughly 30 days after they enter rescue. Then, the second and third injections will happen 30 days after the first. When they are undergoing treatment, they should be on activity ‘restrictions’ which just means they should relax in their crate or cuddle with you.         Click here       to learn more about heartworm disease, which is transmitted by mosquitoes. If you are interested in getting to know this animal better, please fill out an adoption application. An adoption application is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is not a binding contract. To learn more about Ruff Start’s adoption process and the care our foster animals receive, please visit our How to Adopt page. If you are unable to adopt but want to help this animal and others in our care, you can donate to support the medical and veterinary needs of all Ruff Start Rescue animals.   Click here to watch a video of CocoChanel.
