happy young girl seeking fresh start and love! DOODLEBUG NEEDS A FOSTER OR FOREVER HOME!!!! Name: Doodlebug Best Guess for Breed: Beagle and lab mix Best Guess for Age: 2 years as of March 2025 SEX: Female Approximate Weight: 23 lbs Gets Along With: Doodlebug does well with other dogs and needs to go to a hoe with a welcoming resident dog because she is shy. We haven’t seen her with cats but will be happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters. We would be cautious placing Doodlebug in a home with children under 12 years old because young kids can often scare shy dogs with their level of energy or noise. Children would need to be supervised closely to not leave doors open and should never walk the dog without an adult holding the leash. We would be happy to discuss this more in depth with any applicant. Currently Living at: South Carolina shelter foster home; needs a foster or forever home in the DC area to get up here after completing heartworm treatment. Special adoption considerations: Doodlebug is a truly Lucky Dog. Although she has tested positive for heartworms, treatment has been scheduled! Heartworm is not contagious to people or other pets, but results from mosquito bites. Heartworm, if left untreated, is life threatening, but after treatment, dogs that were heartworm positive should suffer no significant long-term effects so long as they are kept on a monthly heartworm preventative. Heartworm dogs can resume full active and normal lives, but need to be kept calm for 4-6 weeks after treatment. We are happy to talk more in depth about heartworm disease and treatment during the screening process. Doodlebug is Looking For: Her forever home! This sweetie wants nothing more than to trot through the world with all the confidence of a well-loved dog. To get there, though, she needs extra loving and patient humans who understand she is a little shy and needs help getting used to new and busier environments. A welcoming resident dog will help teach her how to dog as well. She’s a young girl with all that awesome energy and is eager for opportunities to play – and at the end of fun days together, for all those snuggles. She has so much love and loyalty to offer. What do you say? Does Doodlebug have a spot in your home and your heart?
