He was initially reactive to most sounds but has been calming down with each day. Construction began outside so he was sent through a crash course on controlling barks at outside noises. Although he will still let out a bark at an unfamiliar sound, he is much better at getting under control with redirection. Hermes knows his kennel command and will go in with ease but will sometimes let out a bark or two when I leave, but quiets down when I come back and tell him "No/no barking". Hermes is well potty trained and has been accident-free while I have had him. He is treat motivated until he becomes too distracted. On our daily walks we have been working on avoiding distractions and not pulling. I have seen improvements in Hermes with almost every walk we go on, but there is still some training to go. He knows commands like sit, lay down, shake, and touch. We have been working on commands "stay" and "come" now that he is more comfortable not being within my sight at all times (though he would much rather be buddied up right next to someone!) Hermes likes to solve enrichment puzzles and chew/lick a marrow bones, but there is a very high chance you will find him with a ball in his mouth – chomping, chewing, or wanting you to try and take it from him. He really enjoys trying to "hunt" for the ball when I steal it and throw it into a bunch of pillows and blankets on the couch. Hermes will need an adopter who is able to allow him a small amount of time to become comfortable in his new home. He will also need some continued training on distractions both inside and outside. Overall, Hermes would make a great companion for anyone looking to add a new best friend to learn with, play with, and cuddle with!   7/3/26 Foster Feedback: Hermes is a well&#226&#128&#145mannered, medium&#226&#128&#145energy dog who thrives with structure, activity, and engagement. He’s generally easy to handle and would be a good fit for a  owner who’s ready to learn and stay consistent. Hermes is currently living in an apartment.  He does bark at new hallway noises and may vocalize briefly when left alone, so apartment living will require some patience and training. He’s not reactive at the door—just alert and loud. Hermes enjoys daily exercise and needs at least an hour of walking if he doesn’t have access to a yard. He’s great meeting new dogs and people, which makes getting his energy out easier. He also benefits from mental enrichment: puzzle-style games, rotating durable chew toys, and safe bones keep him busy. He is kennel trained and settles comfortably in his crate. Overall, Hermes is a smart, social dog who isn’t a couch potato—he needs time, attention, and activities to stay happy. With the right resources and a willingness to work on his barking and enrichment needs, he can be a wonderful match.   6/10/2026 Foster Feedback: Inside the house, Hermes will follow you around. He does not need to be right next to you, but likes to be within eyeshot so he can see you. He is a nice balance of independent and clingy, and definitely a snuggler. Hermes is leash trained and responds well to redirection if he ever pulls too hard. He drops his toys if you ask him to, and loves if you throw them. Most of the time he will drop them in your lap when he wants to play. Hermes took a trip to Duluth a couple weeks ago and did wonderfully traveling in the car. He just laid down and put his head in my lap the entire ride. He also loved sticking his head out of the window and smelling all the smells. He'd make a great shotgun rider for the right home-maybe yours?   5/20/2026 Foster Feedback: I've been fostering Hermes for a couple weeks now and he definitely shows golden retriever vibes. His favorite thing in the world, other than people, is his tennis ball. He does wonderful on walks and is always curious to meet other people or dogs. No walk is complete without holding the ball the entire time, and this is a task he does with great pride. Hermes also does well at home, and he settles in nicely while I'm at work after a couple of minutes, and is always happy and tail wagging to see me when I get back. He is potty trained and never had an accident while I've been gone. Hermes can be perfectly content chomping on a ball for hours by himself, but he'll let you know when it's time for some indoor fetch.
