I'm Holmes, and I'm a super social and affectionate guy just waiting to find my forever home. I absolutely adore being around people! I'm a champion purrer and love nothing more than rubbing against your hands, legs, face – anything I can reach! Especially if there's a tasty treat involved! My fur is as silky and soft as it looks, and I promise you won't be able to resist petting me. I even know my name and usually come when I'm called! I'm a well-rounded kitty who's been around other cats (especially my twin brother, Watson!), dogs, and even horses. I'm a pro when it comes to the litter box, and I'm very gentle – I never use my claws on people or furniture. You can tell me apart from my brother by the adorable white fur on my lower belly and "armpits"! While I'm a playful guy, I'm learning to respect other cats' boundaries. In my foster home, I was a little too enthusiastic about playtime with the resident cats. A slow and steady introduction, perhaps through a gate where we can get to know each other gradually, would be purr-fect! I've also had experience with children, and I thrive with gentle handling. Older children who understand how to be kind and patient with a new friend would be wonderful! It might take me a day or two to fully come out of my shell in a new environment, but I promise, once I do, you'll discover a loyal and loving companion who will fill your home with joy and affection. I can't wait to meet you! Holmes was an owner surrender. If you are interested in getting to know this animal better, please fill out an adoption application. An adoption application is the best way to show your interest in an animal and is not a binding contract. To learn more about Ruff Start’s adoption process and the care our foster animals receive, please visit our How to Adopt page. If you are unable to adopt but want to help this animal and others in our care, you can donate to support the medical and veterinary needs of all Ruff Start Rescue animals. Want to adopt a kitten? We highly recommend you consider bringing home two instead of one! Adopting kittens in pairs has been proven to be beneficial for cats’ emotional and behavioral well-being and greatly improves the likelihood of long-term adopter happiness as a result. Adopting more than one kitten also reduces the risk of “Single Kitten Syndrome” (also known as Tarzan Syndrome), a symptom of under-socialization during a kitten’s most formative weeks. Kittens who are under-socialized may develop aggressive tendencies toward both other animals and humans as they grow, creating lifelong behavioral issues for owners.
