Looking for your next furry BFF? We don’t have perfect dogs — but we do have dogs who are perfect for the right someone. Our goal is to match each dog with the home that fits them best and each home with the dog that will sing to your heart. Ready to adopt? Complete an application at Application – Carolina Poodle Rescue   Date into Rescue: 10/15/2025 Reason for being in rescue: Breeder release Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? Keyta is spayed, update to date on vaccines and has a negative heartworm test. Keyta was heartworm positive when she came into rescue. She has since been treated for heartworms with diroban and cleared for adoption. She will need a follow up heartworm test in 6 months (est August 2026) to ensure all treatments were successful.  Weight: 7lb Height: 4in at shoulder Spayed/Neutered: Yes Adoption Fee: $499 Fence needed? No, but Keyta has never lived without one and is not leash trained yet. She will need a fenced in area to go potty until she leans the leash and is comfortable with it. What kind of home would be best for me? Having spent the early years of her life as a breeder dog, much of the world is still new to her. Because of this, Keyta is looking for a patient and understanding family committed to helping her learn, grow, and truly enjoy being loved. Keyta has lived primarily outdoors alongside other dogs and adult caretakers, so household life will be a brand-new experience for her. She will need gentle guidance with leash walking, collars, and learning everyday home routines and manners. A calm but engaging home environment will suit Keyta best. Because she has never been exposed to young children, we recommend a home without small kids, where her transition can be quiet, predictable, and low-pressure. Another dog in the home is essential for Keyta. She gains confidence from canine companionship and will greatly benefit from a friendly, well-adjusted dog who can help mentor her and show her the comforts of pet life. What is my personality like? Keyta is an adorable little Yorkie with a tender heart that is just beginning to discover how wonderful life as a cherished pet can be. She spent her formative young years living outside with other dogs. Everything about living in a home is going to be new for her. You will teach her everything.  Keyta is somewhat crate trained and does well keeping her crate clean, which is a wonderful foundation as she continues adjusting to indoor living. As we said, it's all new. She is still learning to be handled without fear. Slow and steady wins the race. With patience, kindness, and consistency, Keyta will blossom into a loving, playful companion who deeply appreciates the safety and affection she has been waiting her whole life to experience. How do I act when I first meet new people? Keyta is timid at first and may not approach unless another dog does first but with time and patience Keyta becomes a very sweet and playful girl! Other tips and tidbits: Keyta's birthday is 11/10/2020 House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained.  A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule. Potential Adopters Dogs can’t drive — and since we’re busy taking care of them, we can’t either! Please check your potential BFF’s location and make sure you’re comfortable traveling to meet them. Want updates and ways to help?
