Meet Kira – The Sweetest Soul with a Heart Full of Love At just 2 years old and 44 pounds, Kira has already been through more than most dogs ever should. Recently surrendered to the shelter with her six puppies, Kira’s world was turned upside down when her family decided to move away and left her behind. Despite the heartbreak, Kira has remained nothing but gentle, kind, and full of love—for her babies, for the people she meets, and for life itself.Kira is a low-energy, easygoing girl who’s done an incredible job raising her pups, who are now weaned. She’s house trained, walks beautifully on leash, and is very food motivated (which makes training a breeze). She’s lived with children and farm animals and did wonderfully with them. Even in the shelter, she met another dog and was calm, polite, and sweet. That’s just who Kira is—a gentle soul with a loving heart. Now, Kira and her puppies sit in an overcrowded shelter, their futures uncertain. This isn’t where a sweet girl like her—and her innocent pups—should be. They deserve warmth, security, and a family who will never leave them behind again.Kira has so much love to give and is ready to start her next chapter—with someone who will love her just as deeply as she loves the world around her.Could that someone be you?Kira was rescued from a shelter in New Mexico.Meet and greets are by appointment only.  An approved application is required to schedule a meeting. Check out our events page for upcoming open adoption events! We have no additional back story or update for this dog at this time.  When we do, it will be updated here.  This is all the information we have currently. Approved Applicants may make the adoption fee payment by clicking donate above.  Partial adoption fees will not hold a dog. Dogs adopted with our rescue come with FREE training from #GoodPup to help you build strong bonds from the start! If upon meeting the dog of your choosing at your scheduled pickup time you find that you aren't a good match, your deposit will be fully refunded. Adoption fees include vaccines up until time of adoption, microchip, spay/neuter and 1st 30 days of free pet insurance.  We are not affiliated with MetLife pet insurance. (you have to sign up for the insurance or it will not go into effect).  Adoption fees help cover the medical care of the animals while he or she waits for a new home, as well as food and transportation costs. These fees help to provide care for the other animals in the shelter or rescue group who may have medical bills that are much higher than any possible adoption fee. The money also acts as a donation to help support the organization as a whole, allowing the group to continue its efforts to rescue and rehome pets. The dogs in our care are fostered in Colorado, Texas, and New Mexico.  While all dogs are picked up during our scheduled times, sometimes transport dates change due to unforeseen circumstances.   More questions?  Read our FAQs here: https://4p4l.org/faqs/  Breed labels are a "best guess" by a shelter veterinarian and cannot be guaranteed.  A new study has concluded that (in layman's terms), breed assumption is NOT indicative of behavior in mixed breed dogs.  Therefore, if a dog looks presumably to be a German Shepherd breed, one cannot assume the dog will have a high prey drive.  From the study: "Although many physical traits were associated with breeds, behavior was much more variable among individual dogs. In general, physical trait heritability was a greater predictor of breed but was not necessarily a predictor of breed ancestry in mutts. Among behavioral traits, biddability—how well dogs respond to human direction—was the most heritable by breed but varied significantly among individual dogs. Thus, dog breed is generally a poor predictor of individual behavior and should not be used to inform decisions relating to selection of a pet dog" – https://www.science.org/doi/10.1126/science.abk0639
