Critter Details

Leona’s journey began with heartbreak. A caring family in Nassau County noticed their neighbor keeping two rabbits outdoors with little shelter and even less care. They stepped in and convinced the neighbor to surrender the rabbits—but sadly, not before one passed away. The surviving bunny was brought to safety and, with help from LIRRG, given a second chance. That little fighter is Leona. About a month after her rescue, Leona became ill and began showing signs of wobbliness. Bloodwork revealed kidney disease, suspected to be related to an E. cuniculi infection. While the road was uncertain, Leona proved just how brave she is. She made an incredible recovery and is now thriving. She still has a slight wobble, but it certainly doesn’t slow her down. Today, Leona is a silly, energetic girl with a whole lot of personality packed into her petite, floofy frame. She loves to run around and explore, can be adorably bossy when it’s treat time, and may even hop up for a pit stop on the couch to enjoy some pets with you. Leona is a survivor with a joyful spirit and a big heart. She’s ready for a home that will cherish her strength, her sass, and her snuggly moments. Rescued September 2025 Estimated age upon rescue: 1 year
