Thank you for your interest in dog who needs a new home. Adoption can be one of the most fulfilling experiences in your life and especially in the life of your new canine companion. A note to those looking at CPR. We have no perfect dogs – but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone. Our job is to find those someone's. Our most successful adopters come to CPR not because they want a dog. They come to us because they want to give a dog a home. We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture. While we like to know what you like in looks, a dog is more than a pretty face. Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home. We want to create furever families. Our descriptions contain all that we know about this dog today. We'll update as more information is known. Are you looking to adopt within the next 30 days? If so please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and complete the application. You'll find it in the menu on the left hand side. You'll also find a total listing of all our dogs available. Just browsing but interested in poodles and poodle mixes? Please drop a note to applications@carolinapoodlerescue.org with your name, address and phone # and email. We'll add you to our mailing list. thanks the CPR Adoption team Date into Rescue: 2/27/2024 Reason for being in rescue: Mariah was found by Flotilla 25 – a volunteer group of U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliarists. These boat-based law enforcement officials patrol Lake Hartwell in upstate SC. An officer spotted a dog limping along the bank quite a ways from any residential areas. We don't know how she got there – but we're very glad those lake faring officials had keen eyes and saw the doodle so far from home or from eyesight of most humans. They called her presence in to local animal control officials who got the very hurt dog to safety and then to us. Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? Mariah is recovering from a broken right rear leg. It's been a journey to get the leg healed for it was not a fresh break when she was found. Finally…months later…as of recheck 7/10/24, Mariah's doctor notes she is 90% healed and he is comfortable now with CPR putting her up for adoption. She is beyond ready for a home that will care for her. She does not need anything special now except for normal exercise. Weight: 55 lbs Height: 24 in estimated at the shoulder Spayed/Neutered: Yes Adoption Fee: $599 Fence needed? Yes, Mariah is a big girl and needs a yard with a four (4) foot tall or taller fence. What kind of home would be best for me? Mariah was stray and came to us through a humane society that picked her up after alert from lake law enforcement officials. During her time with us she has developed nicely and loves people more than anything, we think even more than treats! Whether Mariah's adopter is single, a couple, or a family, she will fit right into their life. If her adopter is a family she would do best with older kids, 10 years of age and up, simply because when she plays she is very energetic and may inadvertently knock down very young ones. Mariah would LOVE a family with older kids to run and play with in the fenced in backyard. Seeing them all grow up together and become BFFs would be a wonderful thing to watch. Mariah is a joy to be around and seems to have a constant smile on her face. She has a boundless amount of energy and would love an active adopter to go on adventures with. What is my personality like? Mariah is a big girl with a ton of energy. She gets along fine with dogs both big and small. When a small dog growled at her she didn't respond other than to walk away. Mariah was very curious about meeting a cat, and, just like with the small dog, showed no aggression to the feline much smaller than she is. Mariah is a gentle giantess. Mariah was a stray and hasn't been leashed trained or taught any commands. She would do best with an experienced dog owner and someone who is home more than away or has arrangements with a pet walker or doggie day care 2 times per week. This big girl does not walk well on a leash and she and her adopter will both benefit from leash training. Mariah also needs to learn basic commands like sit, stay, come, down, etc. She is eager to please and treats and loving rewards will enable her to quickly learn all you teach her. If you are looking for a lovable and energetic addition to your home Mariah is certain to bring love and energy to your life. How do I act when I first meet new people? Mariah has grown to love people during her time here and will approach you for pets, scratches, loving and playtime. Other tips and tidbits: Because Mariah was a stray, we do not know her actual birthdate. After working with her vets and with our staff, we've given Mariah an estimated birthdate on or about 2/24/2022. Because we do not know exactly how much poodle and how much other breed Mariah has, please do NOT assume she is hypoallergenic. She is not. She is low shedding. House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule if a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained. A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule. Please note – we do not ship dogs. If you are interested in adopting, please take a look at the distance between the foster home location and your location and make sure you are willing to make that trip. Most of our dogs are at our farm in Pacolet, South Carolina. To apply, please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and visit the tab on the left that directions you to the online application. Please note that when screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home. You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you – poodles or non poodles, color, age, etc. Others here may be a better fit for you. It is very difficult to get to know a living animal from a picture and a short description. Since we are constantly getting in new dogs, this may be a dog not in our listings yet. We want you to be very happy with your new companion and will make suggestions based on what you tell us about you. Thank you for considering CPR.
