Name:  Marilu        Best Guess for Breed: Chihuahua mix  Best Guess for Age:   2 years as of March 2025     SEX:   Female Approximate Weight:  8 lbs   Gets Along With:  Other dogs! We haven’t seen her with cats but we are happy to discuss integration techniques with any potential adopters. We would be cautious placing Marilu in a home with children under 12 years old because young kids can often scare small breed dogs with their level of energy or noise.  Children would need to be supervised closely to ensure their interactions with the dog are calm and gentle in nature.  We would be happy to discuss this more in depth with any applicant.   Currently Living at:  DC area foster home. Special adoption considerations:  Dogs from Puerto Rico have a major transition to go through when they arrive and will need humans who are very committed to socialization. We think Marilu would do well with either a resident dog or a family who can make sure she can spend time with other dogs regularly, to learn the ropes from them.    All about Marilu:  Marilu is a soulful and loving pup with a spunky streak that’s pretty awesome in such a small dog. The humans in both her foster homes fell in love with her. Marilu enjoys being by your side but she is also self-reliant and doesn’t demand attention. If you’re busy she will happily curl up on a cushy dog bed and relax. She is sweet with dogs too! She greeted the four dogs in her first foster home by sniffing them gently and respectfully. When out on walks Marilu is eager to greet other dogs, even if they’re much bigger than she is. Marilu loves walks and exploring but coming from Puerto Rico she can be overwhelmed by loud noises and busy streets.She would be happiest in a quiet neighborhood. Marilu came all the way here to find her forever family, to bestow upon them all the love and loyalty in her heart along with adoring gazes and happy little tail wags. What do you say? Can you see her trotting way down there by your side? What my foster says about me:  Marilu is curious, spunky, and alert. She walks well on leash, only pulling on occasion. She likes knowing where I am and will come looking for me if I leave the room. She behaves very well in my home, both in and out of her crate. She is a cautious when meeting new dogs but has been fine when at the dog park or visiting with friends’ dogs. Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.  TO ADOPT: The adoption fee for this dog is $460, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations and spay/neuter.
