If you're interested in adopting any SGSR dog, please read about our Adoption Process and fill out an Adoption Application. Visit our website for more information, including Frequently Asked Questions. Located: Raleigh, NC Please read Matilda's bio thoroughly. This bio will be very specific, as Matilda needs a special forever home. We know that home is out there and I promise she will be the best dog for the right home. Matilda came into the rescue in August, after being found as a stray with her sister. She was microchipped, but her owner didn't want her back. She was emaciated, heartworm positive, not spayed and had a yeast infection over her whole body. The shelter environment can be very stressful on any dog and Matilda began to experience kennel stress in that environment and was going to be euthanized. Her sister was adopted by she later passed due to poor health. Southeast German Shepherd rescue stepped in to take this girl, knowing she would have a long road of recovery ahead of her. She has since been spayed, and will finish up her heartworm treatment soon. Matilda has come a long way but her foster mom has advised that she will need a specific kind of home. Matilda does not trust men. She is not aggressive, but doesn't want to have anything to do with them and appears fearful. Matilda's ideal home: a home with a woman, cats and other dogs are fine. As a matter of fact, Matilda enjoys the company of another dog. She is not very active, so she is completely fine laying in her bed. She doesn't jump on the couch or bed, very well mannered, just shy. A quiet home with not a lot of chaos. Matilda will only put her trust in one person. Once you have her trust, she will love you so much. She is always walking up to her foster mom for pets and reassurance. She walks well on a leash, is crate trained and loves car rides. Matilda is fine out in public, but does not want to accept pets from people she does not know. Matilda has come a long way in a few months. She will need a home that will provide her love, trust and patience. She can and will continue to make strides in her life with the right person. Our adoption process consists of a telephone interview, a call to your veterinarian and a home visit. If you have any questions about the adoption process please contact sgsrtreasurer@gmail.com .
