Meet Maximus! Maximus is a stunning 12-month-old purebred German Shepherd with a gentle soul who's looking for a patient family willing to let him blossom at his own pace. This handsome boy is naturally very shy and is still learning that people can be trusted. He isn't aggressive in the slightest—in fact, when he's unsure, his instinct is simply to move away. With time, consistency, and kindness, Maximus continues to make progress and is learning that gentle touches and affection are nothing to fear. Maximus is both crate trained and house trained, making him an easy addition to a home that's ready to help build his confidence. Dogs are one of Maximus's greatest joys! He enjoys playing with both large and small dogs once he knows they want to be his friend. Having been bullied by other German Shepherds in the past, he's understandably cautious during introductions, but once he realizes another dog is safe, his playful, goofy personality shines through. Watching him transform from a timid observer into a happy, bouncing playmate is truly rewarding. Maximus would thrive with a patient adopter who understands that trust isn't rushed—it is earned. A calm home, a predictable routine, and ideally a confident, friendly canine companion could help him continue to gain confidence. Every small victory with Maximus is worth celebrating, and the bond you'll build with him will be incredibly special. If you're looking for a loyal companion and have the patience to let a deserving dog come out of his shell, Maximus is ready to begin his next chapter with you. If you are interested in adopting Maximus, please submit an inquiry directly to Greater Charlotte SPCA by visiting charlottespca.org/adopt. The adoption amount is a suggested donation of $200 to $300 dollars based on the pet's age. **Because our rescue is composed entirely of volunteers, local applications will take precedence. We will accept out of town applications, but any family is responsible for coming to Charlotte to complete a meet and greet. All out of town applicants will also have to be willing to drive to Charlotte to pick up the pet as soon as they are approved to adopt. **
