Come meet Odette and other great adoptable dogs this Saturday (July 13th) from 12-2 pm at the Petco in Fairfax (10708 Fairfax Blvd, Fairfax, VA 22030)!   Name:    Odette      Best Guess for Breed:    Beagle and Terrier mix Best Guess for Age:    2 years as of May 2024     Gender:    Female Approximate Weight:    26 lbs Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven’t seen Odette with cats or kids, but she can be tested! Currently Living At: DC area boarding facility Special Adoption Considerations: Odette is heartworm positive, but this Lucky Dog got extra lucky! This pup is part of a groundbreaking study we are conducting at our South Carolina Rescue Campus that has the potential to change the way shelters across the United States treat heartworm positive dogs.  All dogs in the study are placed at random in either the 2 shot or 3 shot protocol with strictly monitored protocols in place. Four weeks following their final injection, the pups are eligible to transport to the DC area for placement in foster or adoptive care.  After treatment concludes, we work with adopters to arrange a free follow up heartworm test after 6 months, followed by a second test at 9 months.We are happy to discuss this treatment and which phase of the study this Lucky Dog is in right now! What My Foster Says About Me:  She’s a sweetie-likes to be with human beings a lot-and has visions of being a lap dog despite being a bit heavy for that. She is working on her crate training and making progress. Fairly good with other dogs that aren’t too forward. But will stand up for herself if she feels threatened by another dog that is too pushy.
