Hello. I'm Ollie Bear, and I have two foster families to accommodate my fosters' work schedules. At my foster home with two kids and two dogs, I generally go by Ollie. At my other foster home, where I spend Monday night through Thursday, I typically go by Bear. There, I'm part of a pack of three dogs who also guide me in all things dog. Although generally consistent on rules between my foster homes, my one family allows dogs on beds but not couches, and the other is exactly the opposite. And I always respect those rules between households. My foster families were so intrigued by my possible breeds since I seemed to have ears like a lab and such a gentle temperament that they donated funds for a DNA test. The Embark results say that I'm 60% German Shepherd; the rest of my DNA is in the photo. PS. There is no lab in my DNA. The general consensus is that I could be a therapy dog as an adult due to my calm nature and love of humans. I'm very kid-friendly as I live part of the week with two kids I adore, and I have spent lots of weekends at soccer games and other sports events, loving on lots of kids even before I was fully vaccinated to walk on grass fields. I'm fully potty and crate trained, have excellent leash manners, and know many good commands to please my people. I slumber easily all night. My two foster families who co-foster me persevered through many fussy nights when I just wanted to snuggle in bed with them rather than sleep in a crate; they were determined and had lots of humor with my antics. Although I live easily with dogs, my first love is my human pack. I adore being with my people, settled near them even when they're working from home, right under the desk where I fit comfortably. Sometimes, they share videos of me puppy snoring. I would love to have a playmate if my family isn't into lots of play, but if you're active and engaged, we could do it solo together. Clem and I were so happy to meet the neighborhood Brownie troop who sponsored us for their service project and collected toys and treats for all the puppies waiting for adoption at ShepHeroes.I was recently adopted by a family with a toddler, but after 10 days with them, they felt that a puppy and a toddler were a bit too much. They were very nice, but I love being back with my families. My kids gave me so many snuggles and kisses on the ride back to their house. One of my foster families was at a day-long conference last month, so I hung out with Clem for a day. We had a blast playing and napping and playing again. Along with Clem, Sunny, and Monty, who are all with their forever families now, I attended various adoption events, including a ride to Saratoga for a Halloween Pet Parade and celebration and the Roy Marcum Adoption Faire at the Bradshaw Shelter in Sacramento. Always happy to see and play with my ShepHeroes mates too. I ride nicely in the car, enjoying outings. Before I was fully vaccinated, I used to hang out in shopping carts and wagons when my people took me out shopping with them and to other places for socialization. I loved settling in my rides and holding court for pets without a single motivation to hop out of my cart. I adore meeting all the people who love to pet puppies. I also love treats. I'm a bit of a couch potato and very gentle as puppies go. Would you be open to a kiddie pool or water activities, by any chance? I sure had fun splashing away in one when it was hot.Background-wise, I was part of a large and sad hoarding situation, and the local animal control intervened to help us. My journey from the shelter to ShepHeroes' foster home was exciting. It started with a long car ride from the shelter, multiple shampoos at Pet Food Express to rid me of the stink of my prior life, and lots of love. The first stop was ShepHeroes' adoption event in Citrus Heights, part of Pet Food Express' month-long Adoption Fair. I received a much-needed bath, my first ever, which required multiple shampoos due to my 12-week-old super-smelly body. The ride to the event was a breeze. While I hung out in a crate, my ride said we had to roll down the windows to cope. After the refreshing bath, I lounged in my Xpen and took long naps during the event, snuggled into many laps.Although puppies require time, energy, patience, and love to raise, shepherd puppies require an extra commitment to raising neutral adult dogs. We ask adopters interested in me to have experience with shepherds or similar herding or working breeds and the time and resources to commit to structure, environmental exposures, and training. As a foster-based rescue, ShepHeroes is always in need of fosters. An overwhelming number of shepherds in our local shelters need our help for a fresh start. Would you be willing to share your home and part of your summer to help shepherds find new families? You provide the love, and we'll provide everything else! Saying "yes" today truly saves a life. Complete this https://www.shepheroes.org/foster-form, and we'll be in touch ASAP! We appreciate your consideration.
