Onyx, at 10 months old and 55 pounds, is the kind of dog who turns heads everywhere she goes — her sleek, solid black coat earns compliments nonstop — but it’s her soft, loving personality that truly makes her unforgettable. Onyx’s early life wasn’t easy. She was found as a stray and severely underweight, but thanks to good care and a lot of love, she’s now healthy, safe, and ready for her next chapter. Going into heat shortly after and then being spayed meant fewer opportunities for early socialization, so she’s still learning confidence in new situations — including car rides. She has some car anxiety and needs help learning that rides can lead to fun adventures like walks, breweries, and quality time with her people. What we love about Onyx: she is house trained, has low to moderate energy (she enjoys calm walks and cozy naps), walks nicely on a leash – with room for continued reinforcement, knows sit and is eager to keep learning, is dog-friendly with proper introductions, is cat and kid friendly, is a star at brewery patios — loves attention and all the pets and is a true snuggle bug (dog bed or couch preferred). Onyx does not need to be crated overnight and does well sleeping outside the crate. She is crated during the day while her humans are away; the crate isn’t her favorite, so she’ll benefit from continued positive reinforcement and confidence-building.  At this time, she requires an airline style crate. Onyx would love to have a fence to run around and play in, but it’s not required for her forever home. She is deeply people-oriented and devoted to her humans. Onyx would thrive with a patient family willing to continue her socialization, help her build confidence with things like car rides, and let her explore the world at her own pace. A confident dog sibling could help her feel more secure, but it’s not required — she’d also be perfectly happy being your one-and-only shadow. Onyx is being fostered in Charlotte, NC. If you’re ready to help a gentle, beautiful soul continue to blossom, Onyx is ready to meet you. If you think Onyx would be perfect for your family, please contact your adoption coordinator.
