Please contact Diane Pedulla (dianep@luckydoganimalrescue.org) for more information about this pet.sweet small girl seeking fresh start and love! OPIE NEEDS A FOREVER HOME!!!! Name: Opie Best Guess for Breed: Chihuahua mix Best Guess for Age: 3 years as of July 2024 SEX: Female Approximate Weight: 11.4 lbs Gets Along With: Other dogs! We haven’t seen her with cats but she can be tested. We would be cautious placing Opie in a home with children under 12 years old because young kids can often scare small breed dogs with their level of energy or noise. Children would need to be supervised closely to ensure their interactions with the dog are calm and gentle in nature. We would be happy to discuss this more in depth with any applicant. Currently Living at: DC area foster home Opie is Looking For: Opie would love a home where she gets LOTS of snuggles – she is such a cuddle bug and wants to be close to her humans. And where she gets to go on lots of sniffy walks! Distance and speed aren’t her thing – she absolutely loves just sniffing and exploring. And where she gets plush stuffies to play with! She promises all the love and loyal companionship in her little body in return. See what her foster has to say about her, below. What My Foster Says About Me: Opie is just such a joyful and loving little pup. From the moment she arrived in my home, straight out of the shelter, she has confidently shown and asked for affection from me. She was also very friendly towards all the dogs in the home – my two resident dogs plus another foster dog – from the beginning. I don’t know how she got the healing burn scar down her back but that trauma clearly hasn’t affected her spirit one iota. I am 100% sure Opie lived in a loving home before landing in the shelter. She knew what everything in my home was immediately upon arrival, leapt on the sofa, and knows food comes out of the kitchen. She knew outside was for potty and didn’t have accidents in the house. She sleeps quietly in her crate overnight. When I’m working, she curls up quietly – sometimes in her crate, sometimes in one of the other dogs’ crates (they all swap!), sometimes on a bed at my feet. She knows that when I sit on the sofa or the floor, it’s ok to ask for attention – and the moment I sit, she races the other dogs to jump up and nab a place by my side. I’m not sure how much experience on leash she has – she just does her own thing, following her own nose and wanting to check out all the smells. She is generally very good on leash and responsive to me, though. One thing I love about her is how wonderfully she amuses herself. Opie loves plush dog toys – not the tiny ones you’d think a 11-lb dog would prefer. She likes ones at least half her size and will toss them up in the air and catch them and shake them with her mouth. It’s so cute to watch. I’ll have three dogs standing right by me, gazing watchfully as I do meal prep in the kitchen – and Opie will be joyfully tossing a toy around outside of the kitchen, oblivious to the Great Food Race. She enjoys gentle play with my 8-pound dog as well! Opie is a truly fantastic little pup who absolutely loves people and gets along well with the dogs in my home. Her forever family will be very lucky to have her. Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken. All of our dogs are working on their crate training.
