Come meet Pippa and other great adoptable dogs this Sunday (02/02) from 12-3 pm at the PetSmart in Alexandria, VA (3351 Richmond Highway, Alexandria, VA 22305)! Name:  Pippa        Best Guess for Breed:   Lab/Shepherd Mix      Best Guess for Age:    4.5 years as of February 2025      SEX:    Female   Approximate Weight:    43 lbs – could stand to drop a few Gets Along With:    Pippa does well with other dogs. We haven’t seen her with kids or cats but she can be tested if you have them. Currently Living at:  DC area foster homeFrom Pippa’s Foster: Pippa just got to my home and I already see the fantastic dog that she is!  She is such a happy girl! She loves attention from me, but will settle quietly when I’m busy or working.  When I get up, she becomes so eager and she waits to see if she gets to go for WALKIES!! – or if she will get pets. She runs to me, tail wagging, to tell me she is READY! She keeps a wonderful pace on walks. I’ve taken her out solo, as part of a pair, or in a pack of four with my own two dogs, and another foster dog. She is very responsive to me on leash.  In the car, she settles immediately and is quiet until we get there.  She hasn’t had any potty accidents in the home. I have a 8-lb male that demands to play with fosters, a chill 19-lb male, and another foster her size that she knew before getting to my home. She is great with them all – she plays so fantastically gently with my XXXS male. It’s like she absolutely knows she’s five times his size! I love watching her interacting so gently with them all.  I can see Pippa was very well loved before she ended up in the shelter. She knows what it’s like to be a member of a household and trusts her humans. I can see she is eager to once again have her own home where she gets to go with her family on all their adventures – and most of all, to once again love and be loved. She will do wonderfully in a home with other gentle dogs – she isn’t the rowdy type – or as the only pup in the home. Her forever family and she will be so lucky to have each other.  Medical information: Pippa is heartworm positive, but this Lucky Dog got extra lucky! This pup is part of a groundbreaking study we are conducting at our South Carolina Rescue Campus that has the potential to change the way shelters across the United States treat heartworm positive dogs.  All dogs in the study are placed at random in either the 2 shot or 3 shot protocol with strictly monitored protocols in place. Four weeks following their final injection, the pups are eligible to transport to the DC area for placement in foster or adoptive care.  After treatment concludes, we work with adopters to arrange a free follow up heartworm test after 6 months, followed by a second test at 9 months.  Pippa has completed the treatment phase and four-week wait, and is now in the DC area awaiting her six-month follow up heartworm test – and more importantly, her forever home!   Lucky Dog cannot guarantee any dog is housebroken.  All of our dogs are working on their crate training.  TO ADOPT:    The adoption fee for this dog is $475, which includes the cost of routine vetting, including vaccinations, spay/neuter, and heartworm treatment.  If you are interested in adopting, please complete the Adoption Questionnaire online at bit.ly/adoptaluckydog   Lucky Dog Animal Rescue does our best to provide accurate information about the dogs we have for adoption.
