Adoption Event Schedule Events run from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM every month at these locations: 2nd Saturday, Sacramento – Pet Food Express 3rd Saturday, Modesto – Strand Hardware Store 4th Saturday, Roseville – Pet Food Express Please visit the GCGSR Rescue Page for specific address information. All of our dogs are in foster homes and not in one single kennel location.  Adoption events is the best way to meet several of our dogs at once. Safari is a sweet, 5-year-old girl. She was adopted out as a puppy, but recently returned. In her previous home she went by Rosie.Safari loves fetch! She is always ready for a game. She is great on leash and loves her walks too. She is an active girl, always up for a car ride. In the house she settles nicely and prefers to relax next to you.She is shy, but once she trusts she is very loyal. This led to her being fearful and over-protective at the front door, causing her adoption return. She learned basic obedience to help her overcome this. She knows ‘heel’, ‘sit’, ‘down’, ‘stay’ and ‘paw.’ Now in her foster home she uses these commands, as well as treats, at the front door and she is doing great! She looks forward to the doorbell, and with consistency will continue. Like any protective German Shepherd, she still alarm barks and will prevent any intruder from entering. She does great with cats. With other dogs she is a little leary at first, but soon learns to accept them.Safari is looking for a home without small kids, and with someone that will be a pack leader and continue teaching her confidence in new situations. She will take some time to understand that her new people love her, but she is a great dog that deserves a second chance.Safari is a level 2 Understanding Dog Levels Please be sure you understand what a dog of this Level requires. Go to our home page for an explanation of the Dog Rating Levels. Additional Adoption Information For more information and to see when this dog will be attending an Adoption Day, please see our Dogs page on our main website. (Adoption Process) We operate within a reasonable driving distance from the Greater Sacramento area, the Central Valley down to Merced, and Lake Tahoe. A reasonable driving distance is determined by where one of our volunteers is willing to drive within our areas of service. That means we don't adopt out of our area, to Southern California, or out of state. Puppy Requirements We have special Requirements for Adopting a Puppy and a separate Puppy Questionnaire that must be completed on puppies. Please see our Requirements for Adopting a Puppy or email us at info@gcgsr.org for more information. Thank you for visiting!
