He’s a low-energy, indoor-only cat who enjoys a calm environment and the comfort of his favorite hiding spots. Smudge is very shy and cautious with new people and will often choose to hide until he feels safe enough to come out on his own terms. Once he’s comfortable, he may appear for food (sometimes announcing his arrival with a quiet meow) and will happily accept gentle head scratches — but he prefers that his belly be left alone. He was found as a stray outdoors, and because of his timid nature, Smudge must be an indoor-only cat. He would not do well outside and could easily become lost. Smudge seems to prefer men so far and is not suitable for a home with children, as he will clearly communicate when he feels overwhelmed. He has done okay with other cats in foster care, but he has not been tested with dogs. Car rides are stressful for him, so a home that doesn’t require frequent travel would be ideal. Smudge is looking for a quiet, patient home with someone who understands shy cats and will allow him to build trust at his own pace.
