Critter Details

My name is SOLSTICE (Lixia) and here is a little info about me:Breed: Terrier / Pekingese MixAge: 7 yearsGender: MaleWeight: 13 lbsHeight: 8 inCountry of origin: ChinaHighlight(s): Affectionate, Independent, Gentle, Obedient, Quiet.A little ray of sunshine whose name means "Beginning of Summer."Independent yet affectionate, promising to bring warmth and cleanliness to a lucky home.Surviving four years on the streets of China required relying on neighbors' leftovers and the companionship of my best friend, Xiaoman (Cereal), who sadly passed away recently.Life became a struggle of navigating busy streets and drinking dirty water until a kind soul noticed our deteriorating health and sought help. After a much-needed rescue, surgery for an eye condition, and proper treatment for malnutrition, the focus is now on finding my forever home. I do need eye drops every couple hours during the day to assist with my dry eyes issue (about 7x daily.) Perhaps a vet check in Canada would yield a better means to help.Described as gentle and quiet, with a sweet and excellent temperament. While independent, affection is always welcome, and being clean is a top priority.Patience is a virtue here, waiting in line for food is no problem at all! Even wearing clothes is done willingly, making those cold Canadian winters much more manageable.Ready to adapt to almost any loving environment where a family understands the need for lifelong health monitoring and doesn't mind a pup who occasionally likes his own space would be perfect.New vids Dec '24: https://youtu.be/dgLpfoo3ZCk, https://youtu.be/__nI_75SPNAJan 7: https://youtu.be/zK8reG-e-zYMore vids: https://youtube.com/shorts/KaalVHakIdY, https://youtube.com/shorts/YPciLRDt000,https://youtube.com/shorts/0SU9W90ZpDA, https://youtube.com/shorts/AXo-uhSfNkoEnergy Level: moderate-highI get along with:Dogs: yesCats: unknownKids: unknownFears: unknown/none observed. Heart function and antibody test results all normal per recent ultrasound and lab work. Negative for Cushing’s disease. Though previously diagnosed with hypothyroidism, my thyroid levels have since returned to normal and remain stable. No meds needed.I am neutered & vaccinated and will soon be microchipped. My adoption fee is $650.00 CAD plus applicable taxes. This includes our transportation to Canada, if I am able to be accompanied by a flight volunteer directly to Vancouver.Disclaimer: It is important for all applicants to visit our website, http://www.lovedatlastdogrescue.ca/adopting/ and read about Loved at Last Dog Rescue.Information included in the profile is provided to us from the international rescuer or local fosters. LALDR does not have access to overseas dogs and cannot always verify the accuracy of their descriptions. Every dog is an individual and can act differently in different situations based on the person adopting them and the environment in which they live. Please Note: LALDR highly encourages adopters to research some local dog trainers before their dog arrives. Although a 1-on-1 trainer is often not needed, it is good to have someone in mind in case any problematic behaviours arise. Most bad behaviours can be modified if caught early enough, so make sure to nip undesirable behaviours in the bud before they become serious problems.Basic training should be taken seriously, but should not begin until your dog is well settled in – at least a couple of weeks. After you feel your new dog is relaxed and comfortable in their new home, check out training courses in your local area. Even basic beginner courses like those taught at a local pet store can have a huge benefit in helping your dog learn to socialize and get used to being in public situations, all with the added benefit of strengthening their bond with you. While most dogs find escorting passengers flying directly to Vancouver, some will find flights through Toronto or  Montreal. In that case, additional fees will apply to fly your dog to Vancouver by cargo. Unaccompanied cargo costs within Canada range from $350 – $550 depending on the size of the dog. LALDR will be as transparent as possible with you regarding these costs. The age and breed of a dog is usually an educated guess, so we are not able to guarantee the accuracy of age or breed of our dogs.Normally, we will not approve adoptions to homes with children under 12 years of age. However if a dog has been determined to be good with children we will approve applicants with children 8 years or older. More information can be found on our website.
