Thank you for your interest in dog who needs a new home.  Adoption can be one of the most fulfilling experiences in your life and especially in the life of your new canine companion. A note to those looking at CPR.  We have no perfect dogs – but many of our dogs have proven to be perfect for a certain someone.  Our job is to find those someone's.  Our most successful adopters come to CPR not because they want a dog.  They come to us because they want to give a dog a home.  We urge all of our potential adopters not to fall in love with a picture.  While we like to know what you like in looks, a dog is more than a pretty face.  Our goal is to match you with the best possible pet for you and your home.  We want to create furever families.  Our descriptions contain all that we know about this dog today.  We'll update as more information is known.  Are you looking to adopt within the next 30 days?  If so please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and complete the application.  You'll find it in the menu on the left hand side.  You'll also find a total listing of all our dogs available.  Just browsing but interested in poodles and poodle mixes?  Please drop a note to applications@carolinapoodlerescue.org with your name, address and phone # and email.  We'll add you to our mailing list. thanks the CPR Adoption team   NOT IN VPDate into Rescue: 4/14/2024, placed but returned to us July 24, 2024 Reason for being in rescue: breeder release/puppy that did not sell for first time in. When he was placed he was placed with a family with kids.  They love the toy Ausie breed and worked hard with Sunny but Sunny says he is an adult only kind of guy. Kids he wants to herd. With tears, they brought him back to us to find that kid free family.  Foster location: Dreamweaver Farms, Pacolet SC Special Needs? Sunny Boy is a young and active dog who is up to date on vaccines, neutered and microchipped. Weight: 8.4 lbs but he acts like he's three times that size! Height: 12 in at the shoulder – Sunny is a toy Australian shepherd. We think this is very close to his top weight and height. But note – he looks and acts so much bigger.  He is all hair and all attitude.  Spayed/Neutered: Yes Adoption Fee: $399 Fence needed? Not absolutely required but first preference will be given to homes with physical fences.  Sunny is active.  While he knows leash walking and will go with you on a walk, he also needs to run and romp several times a day and he needs to do it without a human attached.  Alternatively, if you have plans for play dates or doggie day care at least 3 time per week, Sunny could go to an apartment or other fenceless home.  What kind of home would be best for me? Sunny Boy is a young dog with little life experience. He requires an experienced, patient owner with another dog and please, no kids.  In Sunny's perfect world, you will be a single woman who likes to dote on her dogs. Consistency and patience are key with this boy. Sunny Boy, after his time in a home, is much better with humans than he was.  His CPR owner did a great job socializing him, but he never could get comfortable with children or cats, neither of which he had lived with before. What he knows is dogs, and dogs are his comfort. He must have dog friends living in his home.  He would prefer several, but we will be happy with one – but the companion dog must be under 5 years old and playful.  He loves to play.   Sunny much prefers the company of human women over any other type of human.  He was resource guarding his mom in his home.  We're hoping to find a home with a single woman who understands how to redirect this behavior.  No one needs a pint-sized bodyguard. What is my personality like? Sunny Boy is a happy guy who has come into his own the last few months.  He was kennel raised but since May he's been in a traditional home environment with someone familiar with his breed and it shows. He is quirky, opinionated and he loves to herd things.  He is playful, always wanting to be in the middle of whatever canine activity his brothers and sisters here at the rescue are into.  He's the first one up in the morning and when those brilliant blue eyes open, he's ready immediately to take on the world.  In the right hands, he is going to be amazing and so much fun.  Then there are the wrong hands. The wrong hands will NOT understand a herding breed.  Herding dogs – herd.  They do with their teeth and they especially like the back of your calves to get you to go where they want you to go.  When Sunny nips, he nips hard.  It is one of the reasons we are saying absolutely no children under 18 in his new home, and we prefer a single person with experience in redirecting behavior that, left unchecked, can become unmanageable.  Sunny is a strong-willed guy.  He's going to need a strong owner to manage all 8 lbs of him.  How do I act when I first meet new people?  Unsure at first but for those he knows well, he can be happy.  Once he finds the perfect someone and bonds to them, he is going to be a loyal and fun companion.  Other tips and tidbits: Sunny Boy's birthdate is 10/7/2023.  Australian shepherds are working dogs and despite Sunny's small size, he is Ausie through and through.  He would thrive in a home that will shape and mold his core personality and let him use his natural born gifts in a way appropriate for him.  Sunny's first family was working with Bark Busters dog trainers.  They are nationwide. For a $350 transfer fee, his new owner can transfer the program they purchased and receive a lifetime of training support for Sunny.  House trained? Dogs can be house trained if they are in the right environment and are allowed to follow a schedule as long as a physical reason doesn't keep them from being trained.  A dog house trained in my home may not be in yours. We will help you teach your new dog this necessary skill and based on your schedule. Please note – we do not ship dogs.  If you are interested in adopting, please take a look at the distance between the foster home location and your location and make sure you are willing to make that trip.  Most of our dogs are at our farm in Pacolet, South Carolina.   To apply, please visit our webpage at www.carolinapoodlerescue.org and visit the tab on the left that directions you to the online application. Please note that when screening applications, we look at the entire home and then make suggestions based on what would be a good fit for your home.   You are not being screened for a specific dog although we are looking to see what type of dog interests you – poodles or non poodles, color, age, etc.  Others here may be a better fit for you.  It is very difficult to get to know a living animal from a picture and a short description.  Since we are constantly getting in new dogs, this may be a  dog not in our listings yet.  We want you to be very happy with your new companion and will make suggestions based on what you tell us about you. Thank you for considering CPR.
