OTHER PETS: Theo has been social with other dogs while at TJO; engaging in appropriate sniffing and reading other dogs’ body language well. He tried to initiate play with another medium-sized dog, and even moved away on his own when the other dog asked for space! Theo would likely do well with other dog social dogs, but as always, Theo should meet any dog he would be living with prior to adoption. [Case-By-Case (Must Meet First)] OWNER EXPERIENCE: Theo is a friendly dog who is often eager to meet both new people and dogs alike. He can pull quite strongly on the leash, however, and would likely do best with someone experienced with positive reinforcement or willingness to learn, and the patience and physical ability to manage strong dogs while teaching loose-leash walking. [Some Experience]KIDS: Theo is an outgoing dog who is comfortable with most handling, however, he has shown some mild resource-guarding while at TJO with both food and possessions, so he would not be a good fit for a home with small humans. At the moment, he would do well with simply being left alone while he eats. For safety, and to help dogs feel more comfortable around high value items, always trade up with items of equal or higher value instead of removing prized possessions. [Adults Only]ACTIVITY LEVEL: Theo is an active dog with a love for the outdoors! He loves spending time outside and enjoying whatever new scents the day can bring–rain or shine. A combination of regular exercise combined with plenty of mental enrichment such as food puzzles and scent games will help fully meet his needs, and with further training he would likely make a great hiking partner! [Good Walking Buddy / Olympic Athlete]VETERINARY CARE: [Routine] LEVEL OF TRAINING NEEDED: Positive reinforcement training will help Theo bond with his new owner and build confidence while learning new skills and fun tricks. He already seems to know ‘sit’ and ‘paw’, and is looking forward to learning more! [Moderate]GROOMING: Regular brushing will keep Theo’s coat clean and matt-free. When double-coated dogs shed their underlayer (twice a year) some owners choose to get a professional groom to help with all the shedding. [Routine Brushing / Professional Grooming]
