Critter Details
Hi there. My name is TURBO (Toffee) and here is a bit about me:Breed: Jack Russell Terrier mixAge: 5 years oldGender: maleWeight: 16 lbs / 7 kgHeight: 10 inches / 25 cmCountry of origin: TurkeyHighlight(s): lively, dominant, eager to learn, loves attention, loyalLook this way for a charming and spirited pup with a personality as big as his heart!Found on the streets of Istanbul where it is a very crowded area, I had been bitten by other dogs. A volunteer took me to a municipal shelter for treatment. The local volunteer reached out to a rehab center to find a home for me, as I had been at the shelter for a month. When they agreed, out of the blue, this volunteer brought me to them and left. Since then, I have been here longing for a home.I'm a tiny pup that may be small in size, but I make up for it with my vibrant character and endless love.A bundle of excitement, especially around cats, I live with a cat in my foster home and always get thrilled to see my feline friend. While I haven't fully adapted to them yet, I am not aggressive with them either. I can be left alone at home without any issues and do not damage anything. I have no food guarding issues with humans. I show no fears or anxiety towards humans insidethe house either.Despite my tiny stature, I have a dominant personality and am not afraid to stand up to even the biggest dogs. I currently stay with other dogs, but often shows my dominant side, as I am a little jealous and prefer to be the center of attention wanting to be the only pet receiving love and affection. I do tend to assert this dominance over other dogs, and if the other dog doesn’t accept it, a fight may break out, as I don’t back down easily. So some training sessions may be in order to teach me household heirarchy. This behaviour only seems to hold true in my own home, do best to be an only pup home. Outside, I am calm with other dogs. I am a master at slipping out of my harness, so if using one, a double connected martingale collar is the safest method for walking me.A home as an only pet or one with a cat or two would suit me best. Due to the heat here, I struggle with long walks, but I do well on leash: https://youtube.com/shorts/5nbzEXwRiww?feature=share. Should be better in cooler Canada. I respond well to treat-based training and hav already learned basic commands like “sit” and “paw.”Full of life and love, I am ready to find my forever home. If you're looking for a loyal and lively companion who knows what he wants, I may be the perfect match for you!Energy Level: moderate to moderate-highI get along with:Dogs: yes, outside of homeCats: yesKids: unknownFears: none observed. Please be patient assisting me in my transition.Training: familiar with basic commandsLeash skills: yes. Please be prepared to train continue training.House trained: Yes. Please help me learn where to go in my new home.Health notes:I have been spayed/neutered, vaccinated and microchipped. My adoption fee is $800.00 CAD plus applicable taxes. This includes my transportation to Canada, if I am able to be accompanied by a flight volunteer directly to Vancouver.Disclaimer: It is important for all applicants to visit our website, http://www.lovedatlastdogrescue.ca/adopting/ and read about Loved at Last Dog Rescue.Information included in the profile is provided to us from the international rescuer or local fosters. LALDR does not have access to overseas dogs and cannot always verify the accuracy of their descriptions. Every dog is an individual and can act differently in different situations based on the person adopting them and the environment in which they live. Please Note: LALDR highly encourages adopters to research some local dog trainers before their dog arrives. Although a 1-on-1 trainer is often not needed, it is good to have someone in mind in case any problematic behaviours arise. Most bad behaviours can be modified if caught early enough, so make sure to nip undesirable behaviours in the bud before they become serious problems.Basic training should be taken seriously, but should not begin until your dog is well settled in – at least a couple of weeks. After you feel your new dog is relaxed and comfortable in their new home, check out training courses in your local area. Even basic beginner courses like those taught at a local pet store can have a huge benefit in helping your dog learn to socialize and get used to being in public situations, all with the added benefit of strengthening their bond with you. While most dogs find escorting passengers flying directly to Vancouver, some will find flights through Toronto or Montreal. In that case, additional fees will apply to fly your dog to Vancouver by cargo. Unaccompanied cargo costs within Canada range from $350 – $550 depending on the size of the dog. LALDR will be as transparent as possible with you regarding these costs. The age and breed of a dog is usually an educated guess, so we are not able to guarantee the accuracy of age or breed of our dogs.Normally, we will not approve adoptions to homes with children under 12 years of age. However if a dog has been determined to be good with children we will approve applicants with children 8 years or older. More information can be found on our website.[MID-EAST] *Vaccinations: Dogs from the Middle East are vaccinated for rabies, parvo, distemper, leptospirosis, adenovirus type 1 and para-influenza.
