Critter Details

Yoko is a 1 to 2-year-old Schnauzer mix weighing 34 lbs with a remarkable deep grey wiry coat. In Japanese, Yoko’s name means "child of the sun" and she lives up to that name every day with a personality as bright as sunshine. Yoko is the definition of resilience being the sole survivor of a cruelty case where 19 dogs were chained, died of starvation, and one was shot to death. Miraculously, Yoko broke free of her chain and escaped that nightmare in January 2024. She was picked up by animal control and her abusive owner was arrested. Yoko sat for months at the shelter, waiting for the cruelty case to go to court. She was very underweight when rescued, but started her journey toward full health again. Yoko was finally released by the authorities, arrived at 11th Hour Rescue, and is in a loving foster home being a carefree dog after all this time (see her videos). Despite her history, she is a sweet, gentle, and affectionate girl. Yoko loves all other dogs, and will only be adopted to a home where there is at least one other playful dog to help her adjust. She is currently in a foster home with a cat and has shown that she is comfortable with her feline companion. Almost fully housetrained, crate-trained, and with excellent house manners, Yoko is still perfecting her leash skills. She can be an escape artist (that’s how she survived after all), so a fenced yard is ideal and supervision is a must. She enjoys running, playing with her soft toys, and chewing antlers. She'd do best with a family who could devote time and attention to guide her to her full potential. If her furever family has children, a household with older children is preferred as she is continuing to develop trust of humans. Yoko is current on her vaccines, spayed, and microchipped too. Yoko's adoption fee is $415. In ancient times, the name Yoko was reserved for noblewomen. Why not bring a touch of royalty into your home?
